How to Film a Wedding in the Rain
Frameboy Secret Sauce Patent #1027537 - How to film a wedding in the rain in three easy steps.
This ‘secret’ could even be simplified to ‘two things every wedding videographer should always have in the car’ - an umbrella and a roll of duct tape (the good stuff).
But it’s not actually as simple as just having an umbrella. The hard part is holding the umbrella and camera at the same time, while still having the option to put the camera down if you need both your hands for something else - so I developed this simple and effective solution.
1. attach camera to light stand.
2. duct tape umbrella to light stand.
3. film like normal and ignore the feeling of water sloshing between your toes
For Videographers who found this post on Google. The tricky part of this set up is buying a light stand with a 1/4-20 thread on the top. Check eBay, they won’t hold a heavy light but a light stand like this one is extremely useful to have in your kit. I probably mount my cameras to these stands more often than I mount lights to them. Which wasn’t my intention when I bought them.
I don’t like flying lights at weddings unless I absolutely have to, and even then I’d only ever break them out for the Reception. Since I got a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera even those days might be behind me!
